It is the beginning to the 2010-2011 school year. It is wonderful to see everyone’s smiling faces in fresh uniform. Red tops and Blue botttoms for our third graders. This year we are going to work learn new concepts. I want my parents to focus on reading, it is key  for students to learn good reading habits and excellent practice for the CRCT. I teach 3rd grade IRR and although your child has a homeroom class they will take Reading, Language Arts and Math with me.  The supplies needed for this year are 

• 1 pair of headphones
• 2 five subject notebooks
• 2 packs of loose leaf paper
• 1 pack crayons and markers(both)
• 1 scissor
• 1 glue stick
• 2 boxes of tissue
• 1 bottle of liquid soap
• 1 box of sandwich bags (quart size)
• 1 pack of index cards
• 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
• 3 packs of pencils
• Pencil sharper
• 1 pack of dry erase markers
• 1 pack of erasers

 Old shoe box to place all supplies in. Please have all supplies by September.

I know that we will have an wonderful amazing school year. Let’s strive to work together and be positive.

Okay Guys this is the last chance to practice our skills before we go away for spring break!. In class we are concentrating on hard-core skills and test taking strategies. I will send home a CRCT study packet. Have students do at least 2 to 3 pages daily. I will also send home websites for practice. Let’s buckle down and focus on areas of need. Also remember to have fun try not to stress and enjoy the break.

With the test a little over 4 weeks away there is a need to panic but we have to remember that panicking will do nothing but cause stress. At this time we need to take a step back and look at the areas that need to be worked on and PRACTICE those skills . Repetition is key! This time of the year can be stressful but you have to remember you can only do your best.  If you and your child can sit down at the end of the night and say “we gave study time our all”  then there is nothing more you can do, because you have done it all. Remember to put your child on Success Maker and Study Island Daily and read to them nightly ask them questions from the reading. Make study time family time!

This time of the school year is extremely important. The students have to study everyday on new and past material.  The upcoming CRCT test in April will be especially hard on our students due to the fact that they lose a lot over the spring break holiday. Therefore it is important that they keep up their studies. Every moment is a learning opportunity, in the car, running errands even watching T.V. can become a teachable moment.  January 27th is a mandatory parent meeting at the school there are two times  7:50am and 6 pm . This meeting is imperative in collaborating in the success of our students.

Today we will are going on a field trip to the Teachers Museum. We are going to learn a lesson about Georgia safety. We are going to learn how to stay safe in and around Georgia. I believe that learning takes place in many students. It gives a chance to learn in a forum other than the school classroom. Some students never forget the lessons that they learn on field trips. It is also a great way for exposure to new experiences and helps further to build prior knowledge.
